The BMW Motorsport Helmet for Filippo Barberi
The custom painting project created for Filippo Barberi, a key driver for the Ceccato Racing team in the Italian Gran Turismo Endurance Championship, is a striking tribute to the legendary colors and visual identity of BMW Motorsport. The chosen shell is a Stilo ST6, the benchmark helmet for closed-cockpit racing, custom-styled to integrate seamlessly with the livery of the car Filippo campaigns on track, the high-performance BMW M4 GT3.
The graphic concept revolves around combining the raw tech look of the shell with classic racing lines. The base layout merges solid white areas with large sections of raw carbon fiber, which are left visible to showcase the carbon weave beneath. The graphics incorporate the iconic BMW M colors—light blue, dark blue, and red—arranged in a sharp, geometric racing texture that mirrors the official BMW factory racing car liveries. Smooth bright blue gradients provide seamless transitions between the cold tones and the solid white base.
The design is detailed with the name FILIPPO BARBERI airbrushed on the side cheek area, with a custom slanted racing font that blends into the graphics. Every stripe and texture was meticulously masked and airbrushed by hand to ensure absolute precision. The final high-gloss clear coat protects the helmet and accentuates the depth of the carbon fiber pattern, giving the graphics a deep, liquid look and ensuring maximum resistance to chips and abrasion during long endurance racing stints.
