The 2021 F2 Campaign with Carlin Racing

The 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship was a standout season for Dan Ticktum, who established himself as one of the most exciting and competitive drivers on the grid driving for Carlin Racing. With multiple wins and podium finishes throughout the year, Ticktum solidified his reputation for high-speed charging and racecraft. For this crucial season, which also saw him serve as a development driver for Williams in Formula 1, Ticktum wanted to refresh his visual identity. He chose a design that merged the aggressive dynamics of single-seater racing with premium metallic colors and high-impact tones. Andrea Panaro’s Dia Design workshop in Bistagno undertook the challenge of painting his Bell HP77 shell—an ultra-lightweight carbon model built to the strictest FIA safety standards.

The Graphic Concept: Sharp Colors and Lines

In contrast to the naval “dazzle” theme of his previous helmet, Ticktum’s 2021 design features sharp, arrow-like geometric lines that run longitudinally across the shell, accentuating the helmet’s aerodynamic shape and the feeling of raw speed on the track.

The paintwork harmoniously combines a metallic silver base with candy red accents, glossy black, white, bright green, and a unique skin-tone shade (the tan color requested by the driver). This custom blend creates a powerful and highly personalized contrast. The candy red delivers a deep luster that matches the metallic reflections of the silver base, while silver outlines and precision pinstripes define the edges of each section with millimeter accuracy.

Dia Design Craftsmanship and Finish

Applying this complex geometric artwork required exceptional technical skill in masking and airbrushed gradient work. Andrea Panaro’s Dia Design workshop in Bistagno integrated all custom graphics, including the driver’s personalized name script on the chin guard, underneath the protective clear coat. The helmet is sealed with a premium, ultra-shiny High-Gloss clear coat designed to maximize the brilliance of the metallic silver and the depth of the candy red, while offering maximum protection against track debris during the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
